Excalibur Vol. 1 #53 by Scott Lobdell and James Fry (1992) It’s a fill-in issue, but that doesn’t give much excuse for the contents. This issue is boring, has negative character development, and doesn’t even make sense. Why is this actually more of a Spider-Man issue than Excalibur? Grade: D Giant Size Wolverine: Old Man

January 22, 2021: Wolverine, Excalibur, and Sandman

Excalibur Vol. 1 #52 by Alan Davis and Will Simpson (1992) Recap issues are boring, and the art doesn’t do anything to alleviate this. Rachel is off the team for the immediate future. This accomplishes lowering the power level significantly, so I want to see Davis lean into that. Grade: B- Wolverine Vol. 3 #71-72

January 21, 2021: Wolverine, Excalibur, and Sandman

Excalibur Vol. 1 #51 by Alan Davis and Dougie Braithwaite (1992) This is a fun story to cool off from the intensity of issue #50. I’m still waiting on Davis focusing more on Kitty. The art by Braithwaite isn’t the best, and it’s especially apparent when being compared to Davis. Grade: B+ Wolverine Vol. 3

January 20, 2021: Wolverine, X-Force, and Cable

X-Force Vol. 1 #15 by Fabian Nicieza and Greg Capullo (1992) The departure of Cable and reunion with Rictor and Roberto really give the series a feeling that resembles New Mutants again. It’s so much better. Nicieza gets the character voices very well. In particular, Sam reads as a matured version of the classic Cannonball

January 19, 2021: Incredible Hercules, Wolverine, X-Force, and New Mutants

X-Force Vol. 1 #14 by Fabian Nicieza and Terry Shoemaker (1992) Domino finally gets revealed to Cable as not being Domino, and Rictor rejoins the team (for the time being). X-Factor Annual #7 by Fabian Nicieza and Joe Quesada (1992) Finally, Spiral is revealed to be Ricochet Rita. I’m not totally sure if that was planned by Ann Nocenti the from the beginning, but it’s a nice touch that gives more importance to Longshot’s initial solo series. Longshot gets his title of “fallen messiah” in

January 3, 2020: Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men, and Sandman

Uncanny X-Men Annual #16 by Fabian Nicieza and Jae Lee (1992) These annuals are a significant step up from the last few years. Major continuity is happening with the Mojoverse that still comes up today. The backup stories were really boring, though. Bishop tells his backstory for about the 10th time, and he’s only been
