January 29, 2021: Invincible Iron Man, New Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, and Sandman

Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #294 by Scott Lobdell and Brandon Peterson (1992) This is an infamous arc, but the intro issue is actually pretty good. Cable trying to kill Xavier is definitely unexpected, but I’m guessing something will explain this soon. Scott and Jean need to end this storyline of jealously. It’s so lame. Grade:

January 28, 2021: Invincible Iron Man, X-Factor, and Sandman

X-Factor Vol. 1 #83 by Peter David and Mark Pacella (1992) Peter David is great on X-Factor. He gets the quirky, low-stakes X-team really well, and it stands out among the more boring X-Men. Pacella isn’t Larry Stroman, but he’s honestly really good here. Grade: A- Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #17-18 by Matt Fraction

January 27, 2021: Invincible Iron Man, X-Factor, and Sandman

X-Factor Vol. 1 #82 by Peter David and Rurik Tyler (1992) Interesting issue. Peter David keeps up some momentum despite losing a fantastic penciller. I really like David taking the time to show Rahne’s reaction to Sam’s (supposed) death from X-Factor. Grade: A- Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #15-16 by Matt Fraction and Salvador Larroca

January 26, 2021: Invincible Iron Man, Cable: Blood and Metal, and X-Men

Cable: Blood and Metal Vol. 1 #2 by Fabian Nicieza and John Romita, Jr. (1992) Nicieza really gets the feel for 90s Cable. It’s over the top, but not frustratingly so. Him and Kane are back in the future at the end of this, and I’m mostly interested in how this affects the upcoming Cable

January 25, 2021: Invincible Iron Man, Cable: Blood and Metal, and Excalibur

Cable: Blood and Metal Vol. 1 #1 by Fabian Nicieza and John Romita, Jr. (1992) This is legitimately not bad. Excalibur Vol. 1 #54 by Alan Davis (1992) Davis’s art is very welcome back, as is the plot picking back up. Kitty continues to be underutilized, but at least she gets some more meaningful character interaction. Excalibur Vol. 1 #53 by Scott Lobdell and James Fry (1992) It’s a fill-in issue, but that doesn’t give much excuse for the contents. This issue is boring, has negative character development, and doesn’t even make sense. Why is this actually more of a Spider-Man issue than Excalibur? Grade: D Giant Size Wolverine: Old Man
