Apr. 13 – Uncanny X-Men, Fantastic Four: Three, and Hellions

Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #306 by Scott Lobdell and John Romita Jr. (1993) What was the point of this issue? Lobdell brings back Cameron Hodge, previous big bad of large crossover events, and relegates him to a single issue throw-away appearance while also taking away the importance of his death. Candy Southern also comes back,Continue reading “Apr. 13 – Uncanny X-Men, Fantastic Four: Three, and Hellions”

Mar. 8 – Secret Warriors, X-Men, and Hellions

X-Men Vol. 2 #22 by Fabian Nicieza and Andy Kubert (1993) This mini-arc has gotten better with each issue. The racial stuff with Betsy and Kwannon is really problematic still, but the writing is somewhat improving. The better option would have probably been to just not do this story at all. Grade: B Secret WarriorsContinue reading “Mar. 8 – Secret Warriors, X-Men, and Hellions”

Feb. 23 – Avengers Prime, Excalibur, and X of Swords

Excalibur Vol. 1 #59 by Scott Lobdell and Scott Kolins (1992) It’s a fill-in issue without Alan Davis, and wow is it a bad one. There is almost nothing redeeming about this issue of Excalibur. Why are Captain America and Iron Man even there? It continues into next issue, too, so that’s fun. Grade: DContinue reading “Feb. 23 – Avengers Prime, Excalibur, and X of Swords”

January 18, 2021: Incredible Hercules, X-Force, and Hellions

X-Force Vol. 1 #13 by Fabian Nicieza and Mark Pacella (1992) Rob Liefeld’s departure really allowed X-Force to get fun. I’m really liking the series right now. This is like the 3rd time in 13 issues that we’ve ended on an explosion that supposedly killed the entire team. Grade: B+ Incredible Hercules Vol. 1 #139-140Continue reading “January 18, 2021: Incredible Hercules, X-Force, and Hellions”

December 21, 2020: Secret Invasion, X-Men, and Hellions

X-Men Vol. 2 #8 by Jim Lee and Scott Lobdell (1992) I like the amount of cross-over with Uncanny is in this issue. It was weird that they were living in the same house and would almost never mention each other. Rogue and Gambit are really starting to be an item. Bishop is more ofContinue reading “December 21, 2020: Secret Invasion, X-Men, and Hellions”

November 30, 2020: Immortal Iron Fist, X-Men, and Hellions

X-Men Vol. 2 #5 by Jim Lee and John Byrne (1992) I was optimistic about issue #4 due to the increase of character moments and overall improvement in dialogue from the previous few issues. Unfortunately, that has mostly gone out the window already. This really isn’t the worst issue of X-Men I’ve read, but itContinue reading “November 30, 2020: Immortal Iron Fist, X-Men, and Hellions”

October 27, 2020: Nova, New Mutants, and Hellions

New Mutants Summer Special by Ann Nocenti and Bret Blevins (1990) What a weird, fun issue. Ann Nocenti’s complete lack of subtlety is honestly hilarious, but it doesn’t mean the issue is any worse off. Nocenti nails the voices of all four New Mutants featured. This is the best Warlock we’ve seen since Doug’s funeral.Continue reading “October 27, 2020: Nova, New Mutants, and Hellions”

September 29, 2020: Exiles, Uncanny X-Men, and Hellions

Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #271 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee (1990) Part 4 of the X-Tinction Agenda Event Last time I said we would likely need a lot of intro to get the Wolverine team into the event. I failed to realize that they would just see what’s going on in Genosha on TVContinue reading “September 29, 2020: Exiles, Uncanny X-Men, and Hellions”
